Jouberton
Limpopo, South Africa
2009 - 2010

The creche at Jouberton is in many ways an outlier of the studio.  Until 2019 it was the largest, it remains the most complex, and is the only creche done without the Thusanang Trust, and the only one outside of Limpopo.  This project was undertaken as a “one-off” by the Department of Architecture at the University.  The success of the project, or the demand for more projects like it have resulted in every project we have done since and may do in the future.

Noah’s Ark Creche, 4 classrooms and 56 children
In 2019 the creche is starting to show a bit of deferred maintenance, but at 10 years old, it is still a creche full of happy kids.  The staff seems to be entirely new, and nobody that is working is familiar with the students who built he structure.
